How Does The Zxn95 Compare To The Sony Ericsson C702a?

This seems to be the year of the cell phone clones, as knock offs of best selling models are popping up everywhere, imported from countries like China and South Korea. Often, the clones add bonus features to the original design, like an additional sim slot, a removable battery, or a slide unlock feature.

This article will compare Sony’s C702a to it’s clone, the ZXN95. Keep in mind that at this time, the 702 has not yet been released in the United States. It is coming out in the second quarter of 2008. While comparisons have been made with the knock off in hand, I am relying on research for the specifications of the original.

Features: The major selling point of both of these phones is the high quality built in digital camera. The original features a 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, 2 times zoom and photo fix. The knock off has a 3.0 mega pixel option, with all of the same features except for the photo fix. However, the clone does have exposure compensation and special effect settings.

Both models are smartphones with oversized touch screens, web browsing, email, and texting capabilities, as well as built in MP3/ MP4s. Both support Bluetooth. The clone has added an additional sim slot making it dual sim. This means you can have two phone numbers or plans on the phone. The knock off is also unlocked, freeing you to use any provider you wish.

Appearance: The models are similar in appearance with a 2.6 inch touch screen and a 5 way keypad. The clone does offer a metallic silver colored option (called the ZXN95-S) as well as the standard black. I only saw a black option with the original, but that doesn’t mean a silver option will not be available upon it’s release.

Memory: It appears the C702a has 150 MB of memory, while the clone has 256 MB of memory and is expandable up to 2GB.

Price: I could not find pricing information on the Sony, but similar models begin at about $250 and top out at about $300. The knock off usually sells for $50-$80 depending on where you buy it, which is pretty attractive considering all of the advanced features.
