Copying Dvds The Easy Way
This can easily be achieved when you have the right tools available. The tools needed are an efficient DVD copy program that is user friendly and able to perform tasks with multiple DVD formats. You can find many free programs on the web and most work quite well. The DVD format is usually what gets most users into trouble when first learning how to copy their DVD’s.This is one reason why you cannot just simply copy data from one disk to another.
The two most common formats on the market are the DVD5 and DVD9. The DVD5 is a less data packed disk that is the most easy to copy. When copying a DVD5 disk, you are basically just transfering data to your blank disk (burning). Within in this data transfer or burn, you first need to decrypt the data on the original DVD. Sounds confusing, but is rather simple. Decrypting is a fancy way of saying that the data on the original disk needs to be understood and then rearranged in order for it to be copied to your blank DVD.The other format, DVD9, is twice the size in data information and needs a different approach. DVD9 data needs to be “shrinked” which means that things such as special features and additional footage on a DVD need to be cut.
You will come to find that some of the programs you research either are decrypters, or they are copiers. Although some are both, you may need to do your projects in two steps. The first step is to always decrypt the data from the original disk. Depending on which program you use and your hardware, it may take 20 minutes to an hour. Once this data is decrypted, you save the files in a folder of choice. Secondly, you insert your blank DVD in your drive and follow the programs instructions to copy the data from your folder to the disk. Again, this may take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour.
When choosing a program, its important to keep in mind to what extent of options you need in a DVD copy software package. Research programs rather extensively before choosing to buy or using a free one. Free ones sometimes come with additional programs and adware that may be annoying to the user. Keep in mind, that your computers hardware also plays a role in how well it copies DVD’s. Sufficient memory, processor speed, and DVD drive write speed plays a role in how fast it will copy data. Investigate some forums that discuss DVD copy software to see what they are using and what hardware they have.
Making copies of your DVDs protects your investment of the original disk. Over time and heavy usage, your disk may become unplayable and damaged. If you have children, you know how things tend to become used as not originally designed for. Copies are also great for traveling and sharing with the household. With some research, practice, and patience, you will be copying DVDs in no time.
