Virtual Jobs - A Growing Trend
A recent article in Woman’s Day magazine detailed steps on “How to Make Money at Home” and the article featured a quote from Lesley Spencer Pyle (the founder of Home Based Working Moms) that spoke to the recent trend for companies to go virtual: “Companies are learning that they can save a lot of money by hiring home-based working moms to do projects such as word processing, writing, computer programming, even tutoring”. (1) The advances in technology and ease in connecting to the global economy increase the need for a virtual career. Many companies recognize the value of a virtual business environment and the cost benefit in not maintaining a location.
“The whole concept of virtual work has to do with how you work, not where you work,”… As such, businesses can consider a much larger talent pool and don’t have to worry about issues such as relocation. “You aren’t limited to the pool of resources in your city,” said Sharon Sarmiento, who is based in Alabama and runs a virtual business that helps people set up their own virtual businesses.” (2)
In fact, Lesley Spencer Pyle has made a noticeable mark on the industry with the launch of her newest project HireMyMom devoted to connecting “mom professionals” to businesses that have a need for both temporary or permanent positions or projects. Additionally, Lesley Spencer Pyle has been quoted as an industry expert and advocate in major dot com news organizations such as ABC, MSNBC, Yahoo Finance and many more. Her platform business Home Based Working Moms was a featured link on Dr. Phil’s website in promotion of a recent book entitled, The Moms Town Guide to Getting It All. Co-authors, Heather Reider and Mary Goulet wrote this book to help other moms earn income while at home with the kids. The authors “believe staying home to raise children is a priority and a gift
. But you can stay at home, take care of the kids and create income for your family while pursuing your own passions.” (3)
So how does it work? The HireMyMom membership is free to the businesses recruiting virtual jobs and the mom professionals pay a quarterly or annual membership. When positions come available; HireMyMom reviews them and sends out a project list via email to its members. To apply for a project the mom professionals work directly with the business or client to apply. The business or client is also responsible for directly paying the mom professional. So basically, there is no middleman. There is definite value in this type of networking that can lead to regular work at home jobs.
With the emergence of global technologies and the individual worker’s pursuit for more flexibility and independence. I expect that the virtual employment market will explodes as more entrepreneurs seek out their fortunes on the World Wide Web. It seems that this virtual career niche could deem very profitable and cost effective for “Big Business” as well as small business trend-setters like Ms. Spencer Pyle.
Cheers to the future of Stay At Home Mom’s and Dad’s!
