The Practices Of The Heart Part V - The Practice Of Seeking Resource
The only thing constant in this world is change. This will always be true. Which is why I find every opportunity to update my knowledge. The practice of seeking resource for me is to find the best tools for learning, and surround myself with the best people to learn from. Resources are available in more formats today than ever before. Not only do we have traditional schools, workshops, periodicals, and books, but now we have a myriad of electronic sources like teleclasses, eBooks, podcasts, and webinars.
Additionally, people have always been a powerful resource. I consistently reach out to learn from others, such as masterminding with successful leaders, seeking out mentors, and working with coaches and teachers. These all afford me the opportunity to develop new capacities within and grow and develop my own resources of knowledge and skill.
How are you seeking resources in your life? Are you trying to be a maverick and go it alone? There are so many who have gone before you and are willing to help. Consider creating an effective team around you consisting of those with skills and knowledge that fill your gaps. Do you need a coach, mentor, or partner to help you with your home-based business? Do you need office assistance from an intern, or part-time employee or contractor? Do you have a trusted accountant, attorney, and copywriter on your team? Do you have other business owners you can chat with from time to time? Make sure all your bases are covered.
Too often new business owners think they’re supposed to handle everything alone and feel it’s weak to ask for help. Well, if that’s you, then it’s time to realize you can’t do it all—and there’s no shame in that. Few individuals have expertise in every field. Don’t be too prideful to accept help and use resources from any place you find suitable. It’s the only way to grow and expand as an individual and in your business.
Furthering your education is an ongoing process. We’re in an age of constant innovation, so to succeed in business, you must keep up. If you think you’re too busy to take classes, you can learn online. If you don’t have time to read a book, you can read the eBook or listen to the audio in your car. With so many easy, time-saving choices, you have no excuses.
Incorporate the practice of seeking resource to allow yourself the space and freedom to grow and adapt to change. Be open to new ideas, and let go of what doesn’t work any more. Keep updating your resources to the best you can find.
Someday you might even be a resource for someone else.
