5 Tips For Writing Articles That Will Actually Do Somthing For You

Most of the people I have had the pleasure of helping with online marketing tell me about the exact same frustrations (they have) when it comes to writing articles. First, they have no clue how to go about becoming a “writer“, and second they have no real understanding of how writing articles can help when it comes to Internet marketing. I really want to share what I feel are the 5 most important tips for writing an article that will actually “do something for you”.

1. Offer Something Unique - The easiest thing you can offer (with the most benefits) is unique is “unique content”. If you are providing some information of value that people can learn and gain knowledge from, that content will get picked up by many other people. Having many people link to your article that is unique and full of good information builds up natural links which will help your SERP’s (search engine ranking positions). Your article could eventually end up as “authority” article and send you loads of unique visitors and potential leads to your website each day!

2. Use Varied Anchor Text In The Article - When you are writing the article I do not want you to be thinking of search engines and having to get an exact amount of links (or keywords) inside the content. You need to include the anchor text links inside the content where they are most appropriate. If you are really trying to be found for the word fixed assets, you need to use a variation of that word throughout the content that links to the page you are trying to get ranked (fixed assets software, fixed assets accounting and so on - for example).

3. Provide Some “Link Bait” - Titles are what makes people click on articles. If you do not have a catch title that makes people want to “click” you might as well not even try. If you are thinking to yourself; “I am selling pillows on my website, and pillows are boring, what on earth can be catchy about an article talking about pillows”? Think about it this way - “The Ugliest Pillow Contest”, or “10 reasons why you may want to trade in your old pillow for a new one”… Do you see the difference? If you do, you will benefit from even this tip alone!

4. Create A “Bio” Section - After every article you write, you need to include a biography that tells the readers a little bit about yourself, and/or the products that you are offering/pitching. This is a great place to include links too, because if an article submission site picks up your article (or you want to submit to one) more then likely they are not going to allow outbound links inside the content, but only in the “signature” or “Bio” section.

5. Make It Easy To Share - If you are familiar with Social Media Marketing (SMM) and Optimization of Social Media, then this will make perfect sense to you. If you are not, there are websites out there that share articles, and users “vote” on them. The ones that get the most “votes” always end up on the front page of those websites. Getting on the front page of those kind of websites could mean more traffic then your host knows how to deal with. A couple of the big social bookmarking, and article sharing sites are Digg, and Del.icio.us. These websites offer tools that make it easy for people to share your content with their community of users. You can include these tools right on your website to make it easy for people to share your content. Doing this will increase the people linking to your articles even more, and in the long scheme of things help out your SERP’s.

Just writing articles alone is not going to get you the traffic you desire, but it is a great start that could help you see the potential. Also, just writing one article is not going to do much for you. You need to get in the habit of writing as many articles as you possibly can. It will improve the way the search engines crawl your site and increase your overall standings.
