Protect Yourself And Your Business At All Costs
Let me tell you a story today about my good friend paddy scriven. When I left my job about 18 months ago and started my own offline business, paddy also left the company (a month later than I did) to start up his own business also. Now the difference was ,that I was leaving to start up on my own and he was leaving to go into business with his brother. His brother had everything set up and all he had to do was go 50-50 with his brother (on his side of the business) and he thought everything would be ok. You see, his brother has an IT business in which he sells IT products such as computers and printers and what was going to happen was that he was going to absorve paddy’s new products into his business and basically run it like he was running it. Six months later and paddy saw what was happening.
He was merely an employee in his brothers company. His brother was basically treating him like an employee so there was no main difference in treatment or wage from his last position. He is selling around 45000 euros a month at a good margin and all he is getting out of it is a wage. His brother doesnt know the products, doesnt know the customers. Basically he has been handed everything on a sliver platter.
I have been trying to empower (to no avail) paddy for the last 12 months to go out on his own and start making the money he deserves. He just wont do it because he doesn’t believe in himself. Belief my friend is so important for the entrepreneur. If people would just embrace it , they don’t know the power it can give you. For example, In todays world of endless possibilities, I firmly believe that belief is the stumbling block where alot of dreams vanish. I actually think that belief is more important than the actual running of a business. For example paddy. Nothing would change if he went out on his own. This time, he would be buying the products, he would have the same customers, the problem is belief. If he believed in himself, he could be a millionaire in 5-10 years. Instead he will be the puppet in someone else’s play. Sad
Again I repeat it takes courage to step beyond the ordinary. But I got to tell you, I love living my life as an entrepreneur. Its making money on my terms, not someone else’s. You start to develop different insights, different ways of thinking, but ultimately you enjoy what you do, which is what we all want in life
